Spring arrived on March 2Oth along with a new moon. What does Spring mean to you? For me, it brings up new beginnings. I usually try to do a juice cleanse around the Spring equinox. I’m sure you have heard the term ,”Spring Cleaning”. Just like our homes could use a deep cleaning, the body deserves a break from all of the foods we force it to digest on a daily basis.
I’m here to tell you my secret to going on a cleanse and actualluy enjoying it.
#1. Choose to start with eating mostly Vegan for two days before your cleanse date.
#2. It helps if you set your date closer to the weekend, so if it makes you tired, you can rest!
-This time I chose a three day cleanse because it does make me spacey and exhausted! Which makes it hard to work and excercise.
#3. If you are a dedicated morning coffee person, quitting coffee for five days can be rough, but it’s important that you stop while cleansing effectively.
I started my mornings with a juice adapted from an amazing book, Juicing, Fasting, and Detoxing For Life, by Cherie Calbom,MS.
Here is a link to her web-site!
Here is the recipe:
(I altered it to my taste.)
Blended Citrus Shake:
1 lemon juiced
1 lime juiced
1/2 cup of ice crushed
1 piece of fresh ginger sliced
2 cloves of garlic
1 Tblsp. of organic cold pressed coconut oil
Blend all! Enjoy 🙂
I then chose to make a cup of detox tea, which has dandelion and helped with the coffee withdrawl on the first day!
#4. Go for walks, get fresh air. Try yoga and calming exercises. Cardio is great while cleansing. I actually was able to do 30 minutes of cardio each day . Sweating is great while on a cleanse to speed up the detoxification through your skin.
You will be amazed how radiant your skin will look!
#5. Remember to have 3- 4 fresh juices throughout the day. I also made a raw beet salad to have on hand. You could also add a whole avocado to one of your juices each day and eat it like a cold meal soup. If you end up finding yourself needing something more filling? You can steam an artichoke in the evening for part of the cleanse.
The benefits of going on a cleanse are great.
Feeling clean inside and out!
I find myself eating clean after I finish a cleanse. It definitely changes my relationship with food. I find myself craving healthier foods, like raw salads, and fresh juice.
And if you don’t have time to juice. There are several juice companies in the area that you can order a cleanse package from. One is Project Juice. If you need raw foods to go with your juice, I can provide you with a detox with foods plan.
It really all comes down to self-control and your body will thank you!
